The story
The Croft on the Firth
When Frances Hartley rents an isolated croft on the Dornoch coast, she's not looking for anything except six months of peace and quiet, just enough to finally finish the novel she's been avoiding for years. What she doesn't expect is a temperamental old stove that refuses to light, or the quiet, capable local teacher who turns up to fix it.
Ewan Fraser has spent two years rebuilding a life he never asked for, teaching his class, tending his garden, and keeping the ghost of the wife he lost close rather than letting her go. He isn't looking for anything either.
But a village has a way of pushing two careful people back into each other's paths, at the shop, at the ceilidh, over a fence at dusk, and slowly, cautiously, Frances and Ewan find themselves opening doors they'd both quietly locked. As the manuscript grows and the Highland seasons turn, Frances must decide whether the peace she came here for was ever really the point, or whether she came north, without knowing it, to finally let someone in.
A gentle, slow-burn Highland romance about grief, courage, and the unexpected home found in the most unlikely of places.
